Welcome to Douka-Tei Portuguese Cafe & Sweets, a delightful haven tucked away in the charming streets of Arima Onsen, Kobe. This cafe offers a refreshing departure from the standard coffee shop experience, inviting guests to indulge in authentic Portuguese flavors lovingly prepared by a passionate owner who has lived in Portugal and honed his culinary skills.

Upon stepping inside, you’re greeted by a cozy and artistic atmosphere, accentuated with unique glassworks crafted by the owner himself. Each cup is a work of art, reflecting a blend of creativity and passion. You can find a mix of warmth from the inviting decor and the tantalizing scents wafting through the air, beckoning you to explore their diverse menu.

Douka-Tei excels in its offerings that feature a variety of Portuguese wines and liquors, alongside creative adaptations of traditional dishes. Here, you can enjoy a hearty meal while savoring a refreshing Super Bock, the famed Portuguese beer that has received praise from satisfied customers like Ryo Hamasaki, who found it to be the perfect accompaniment after a long day of exploration.

Indulging in the culinary experience here promises something special. What really stands out is the handmade ginger ale—a refreshing touch that lifts your spirits and pairs beautifully with the food. As noted by Matthew Pinkey, Douka-Tei serves all drinks with delightful condiments such as beer paired with nuts and figs, adding a unique twist to your tasting experience.

For dessert enthusiasts, the cafe doesn't disappoint. Do not miss the Sericaia cake, a traditional Portuguese dessert that is beautifully rich and pairs wonderfully with a glass of port wine. The cake has earned high praises for its delightful flavor and is perfect for sharing among friends, making your visit truly memorable.

While some reviewers like Stephen Wee noted that the coffee might take a little longer to arrive, many agree that the hand-brewed coffee—described as perfectly balancing sweetness and sourness—should be enjoyed black to appreciate its full potential, offering a delightful experience that many have come to love. Vincent Mo even shared how every sip is a testament to the barista's skill and passion.

With an emphasis on quality and authentic Portuguese experience, Douka-Tei is well worth a visit, whether you’re looking for a cozy spot after wandering the gorgeous streets of Arima Onsen or simply want to enjoy some of the best homemade Portuguese sweets and coffee around. Don't miss the chance to visit this gem that locals cherish and international visitors rave about!

Cosy little Portuguese cafe, had a lovely lunch, the home made ginger ale was delicious.. All drinks come with a nice lil condiment, I.e. beer + nuts and fig. The dessert was lovely, shared a Sericaia cake and a port wine. Perfect place to stay warm, especially when it’s raining

The hand brewed coffee was so good, it blanched well with the sweetness and sourness, please do not pour milk into it, just taste the coffee. The cake is also great, worth give it a try!

This is a very nice little cafe in the main area of Arima Onsen. I tried the Sencha tea and it was very tasty, and I also enjoyed the tea set. They sell the same brand in the cafe and for a nice price. Highly recommend this place. Atmosphere is nice, plenty of seating and air conditioning, and there's also seating outside.
